Umeda 梅田 in Osaka 大阪 is winding down late night as people head home after a long day at the office. This image came about while waiting in the shadows for the right moment that best gave the true feel of the environment. From the railway bridge above to the yellow hue of the street lights that cast the shadows of the people waiting to cross along with their postures for me defined a scene that plays out every night in the bustling city of Osaka.
Man passing run down building in the the Shinsekai area of Osaka. 大坂 新世界 日本
Streets of Osaka in the Shinsekai area Japan / 大坂 新世界 日本. This is known as the most run down and dangerous area of Japan as it was heavily occupied by the Yakuza and crime was rampant. These days it is still run down almost as it has been forgotten by Osaka itself. The area still hosts gaming halls for Shogi, Gomoku and Mahjong inhabited by the elderly. It also hosts a large transvestite community. However despite the rough image the food here is at a very good price and is as tasty as anywhere else in Japan so check it out for the out of norm experience in Japan. (Note: Japan is known for its very low crime rate and almost eat off the streets cleanliness)
